I've been thinking about purchasing a new camera for a while now. While my Nikon Coolpix E4300 has served me reasonably well for the past few years, I've never been particularly happy with the super close-up shots. Of course, that may actually have more to do with my lack of photography skills than the quality of the camera itself, but, I felt it was about time I upgraded. After comparing a number of cameras, I decided to purchase a Canon Powershot S3. I've read a number of reviews about how fantastic this camera is for super macro shots, and the added bonus of an image stabiliser was what sucked me in.
So it arrived this morning, and the first thing I really love about it is the weight - it has a lovely "hefty" feel to it and sits perfectly in my hand, which I think will really help improve the quality of my macro shots. I know I really should buy a tripod (I did have one a few years ago but it broke and I haven't bothered to replace it), but we'll see how it goes. Now, of course, all I have to do is work out how to actually use the new camera. It took me about 3 years to get the hang of using the Nikon, and now I'm on another learning curve.
Anyway, the batteries won't be charged up enough until at least tomorrow for me to even consider playing around with it, but I'm really quite excited about the possibilities this camera seems to offer. I may even sit down with my friend, Farid, and have a chat with him about improving the quality of my photos. Although an amateur photographer, he knows a heck of a lot more about this stuff than I do - as a matter of fact, he's the person that took all the photos for the book I'm in and they turned out wonderfully.
Well, time for me to start work.. have a great day!
